Deciding which log splitter to buy might seem daunting at first but if you adopt some simple guidelines the task becomes relatively easy.  Take your time to make your decision.

First you need to decide what you will be using your log splitter for.  Are you buying a log splitter for one of the following situations

  • Domestic use
  • Semi-professional use
  • Professional use

To help compare the many different types of log splitters on the market you will need to think about where you will be using the log splitter and the safety aspects. Will you be using the log splitter outside or inside, maybe in a barn or outside building?

If you are able to use the log splitter inside do you have access to electrical power? If you are using the machine outside will you be using it in a damp environment? Is space a limiting factor?

The three main types of log splitter to consider are

  • Electric Log Splitter
  • Gas Log Splitter
  • Tractor Log Splitter

Should I choose a Vertical or Horizontal Log Splitter? – If space is tight then maybe a vertical log splitter would be preferable to a horizontal log splitter.

When you look at the space you have available consideration should be given to the splitting direction of the action of the log splitter. There are two basic types

Kết quả hình ảnh cho Horizontal Log Splitter

  • Horizontal Log Splitter – Individual Logs are loaded onto the splitter and automatically placed in front of the cutting wedge. The splitting mechanism works in a horizontal motion driving the wedge into the log and the cut pieces drop to the floor either side of the splitter

Kết quả hình ảnh cho Upright or Vertical Log Splitter

  • Upright or Vertical Log Splitter – Individual logs are placed on the footplate immediately below the cutting wedge. The splitting mechanism travels in a downward motion driving into the log and the cut pieces fall away to either side.

If space is at a premium you may choose a vertical log splitter which has the advantage of less heavy lifting but on the other hand more precise cutting of the logs will be required to enable the logs to stand up squarely.

Some of the best log splitter models provide both horizontal and vertical operation. Switching between the two is just a matter of the splitter rotating from a horizontal to a vertical plane.

What type of wedge? – Generally the best log splitters for home use come equipped with a basic 2 way wedge with an optional accessory of a four way wedge.  Most semi-professional wood splitters are fitted with 4-way wedges as standard and generally 6 way wedges are fitted on high-end log splitters for use in commercial operations. The type of blade fitted to the log splitter affects the speed at which you can cut your logs down into firewood and so the decision depends largely upon the volume of logs to be processed.

What force do I need? – The main part of the log splitting operation is the ram which drives the wedge.  The force behind the ram is measured in tons and can be anything from 3 to 30 tons or more.  Generally the higher the force the more commercial the log splitter becomes. Most domestic log splitters fall into the “up to 10 ton” catagory.  Closely associated with the force is the diameter and length of logs that can be safely split.  The best domestic log splitter should allow for logs up to 10 inches in diameter and up to around 18 inches in length.

Is Portability of the log splitter an issue? – If you are only going to use your log splitter in a fixed place then portability may be less of an issue but today being able to split logs around the home grounds or in woods is normal.

Most log splitters come with wheels so portability becomes less of an issue. If you will be moving your log splitter often then you should consider the overall weight and how easy it is to pull around, maybe you might need two people.

If you will be transporting your log splitter longer distances then you will almost certainly want one that can be towed behind a truck.  You will also need to check if your towable log splitter is for off road use only or is it equipped for towing on the highway.

Whatever type of log splitter you end up buying you will want to be sure you’ve bought the best log splitter to meet your own demand and circumstances. Healthy snack recipes are a must to encourage children to start eating healthy.  Eating habits ingrained from a young age are likely to last well into adulthood, so parents really need to start their kids on the right dietary path.

A child who is overweight or obese is more vulnerable to weight issues later on.  After school bites prepared using healthy snack recipes will provide growing children with the right nutrients they need to sustain them until dinner time.

Healthy snack recipes can be simple and easy to prepare.

In fact, healthy snack recipes can be just as convenient as an unhealthy snack.  All you need is a bit of planning and forethought so that the fridge and cupboards are always well-stocked with good food items.  After all, kids naturally reach for what is available.

Here are some suggestions so that healthy snack recipes are always just a few minutes away:

1.     Fruits are always a refreshing and sweet healthy snack recipes that kids enjoy.  Cut up fruits such as peaches, melons, berries, oranges and apples and store them within easy reach inside the fridge.  That way, your kids can just grab some whenever he would like a bite.

Aside from being packed with a lot of vitamins and fiber, fruits satisfy cravings for sweetness in a wholesome way.  Choose to buy fruits that are in season, they taste (and are cheapest) when in season.

2.    Yogurt is a very versatile food item; it can be added to make sauces and dressings richer.  On its own, yogurt is already a very yummy snack.  Try buying some plain yogurt and adding chunks of sweet fresh fruit.

3.    Make your kids favorite dip and prepare some vegetable sticks that would be great for dipping.  Carrots, cucumber, celery and grape tomatoes are light and healthy snacks that would serve to  hold them until dinner is prepared.  Kids don’t necessarily hate veggies.  When they see vegetables being consumed regularly in the house, they will eventually learn to love eating them too.

4.    Nuts and seeds are full of healthy fats that your kids need for brain development.  Always keep some in a bowl atop the counter.  If you like, you can add some dried fruit, chocolate chips and miniature marshmallows to come up with your own homemade trail mix.

5.    When it comes to packing in a lot of flavor and nutrients in a glass, smoothies are definitely the way to go.  Make your smoothies with all sorts of yummy fruits and even vegetables; use whole milk or ice cream to add in calcium and protein.
Healthy snack recipes can be easily served every day.  After a busy day at school, it is crucial to feed kids with something wholesome to allow them to replenish their energy.  After all, they still have the rest of the day to go through, with activities such as homework and family bonding.  Feeding them right will support their nutritional needs.

Every family could use some good healthy snack recipes.  With the majority of adults and children battling weight gain and obesity, healthy snack recipes are effective weapons against the siege of junk food and empty calories.  In this post, we teach you how you can play around with healthy snack recipes to make them truly your own.

Healthy Snack Recipes Tips

1. Make a list of diet-worthy food items that you know for sure your family eats (willingly).  Healthy snack recipes can taste good while staying nutritionally sound at the same time.

By using healthy items such as yogurt, eggs, cheese, and fruits, you will come up with dishes that your family will enjoy as well.

2. Search cookbooks or online culinary websites for healthy snack recipes that feature good food items your family will eat.  For example, if your family loves cheeses (like ours do) look for a variety of ways that you could serve them.  Family-favorite suggestions include grilled cheese sandwiches, scrambled eggs with cheddar, or even a cheese and lettuce tortilla wrap.

3.  Keep it simple.  Healthy snack recipes do not have to involve lots of prep time.  In fact, snacks that can be easily made are your best hedge against giving in to junk foods.  For example, while making your own no-preservatives added, canola-oil fried potato chips may be admirable, the labor-intensive and time-consuming procedure involved will just tempt you to give up and simply open a bag of chips instead.

4.  Be sneaky.  The good thing about making your own healthy snack recipes is that you can sneak in lots of goodness without your picky eaters being any wiser.  For example, when making a cheese melt, throw in some tofu.  Adding some bran to your oatmeal cookies will fulfill your family’s fiber requirement.

5.  Get the kids involved.  Kids are more apt to enjoy healthy snack recipes if they have had a hand in the preparation.  Even small kids will enjoy being able to work in the kitchen.  Of course, you need to make sure that you only let them help according to their age and skills.  In our family, cheese fondue Sundays are always a hit; we use different vegetable sticks that the kids have cut up for dipping.

6.  Make changes if needed.  Healthy snack recipes do not have to be terribly original.  You can just take tried and tested recipes that you already have and substitute ingredients or preparation methods to make them healthier.  For example, fried chicken fingers could be baked chicken fingers.  Or, instead of using bacon bits for your salad, you crumble some feta cheese instead for a great healthy snack recipe.

Healthy dinner recipes are a must to keep your family well-nourished.  Usually, most busy families only get a chance to eat together during dinner so your meals need to be appetizing and easy to make.  While healthy dinner recipes do require a certain degree of forethought, they need not take hours to prepare.

In this article, we provide with tips and ideas to help you consistently turn out healthy dinner recipes.

Healthy Dinner Recipes Tips

1.     Make sure that you understand your family’s nutritional needs, and take steps to adjust accordingly.

For example, while the adult members of the family may need to cut back on their fat and calorie intake, toddlers and growing children need to consume more in order to support their metabolic needs.

Tailoring healthy dinner recipes for each family member is not necessarily complicated.  For example, if you are serving a pasta dinner, you can simply add a pat of butter to your kids’ portions to increase their calorie consumption.  Or, instead of giving soda, serve them a glass of whole milk as a dinner beverage.

Toddlers need to consume some cholesterol to support brain development.  Have them enjoy dark meat while the rest of the family virtuously eats white.

2.    Healthy dinner recipes are structured around nutritious vegetables and lean meat portions.  You could basically use any other recipe you already have, just substitute healthier ingredients.

For example, instead of using a rich salad dressing like thousand island or caesar’s, use some vinaigrette and drizzle it sparingly over salad greens.  You can also make tasty dips using mustard instead of mayo.

3.    Restructure your family dinner.  Instead of having a large main dish made mostly of meat, and smaller vegetable side dishes, cook three healthy dinner recipes in equal parts.

You can have one vegetable dish, one lean protein dish and one carbohydrate.  Again, this need not be complicated.  A grilled tuna slice served over a bed of rice and a green salad is one example of a meal that is easy yet nutritious.

4.    Choose lean cuts rather than fatty ones, and eat white meat rather than dark.  Chicken and turkey breasts are quicker to cook than a piece of large steak.  In addition, it has less fat and all of the protein you need.

5.    Make healthy eating a part of your family lifestyle, not just a notion that you indulge every now and then.  While eating meals made from healthy dinner recipes help your family enjoy a greater sense of well-being, your family needs to learn how to eat healthier all the time.

Do not stock up on salt- and fat-laden junk food.  When grocery shopping, fill your cart with healthy treats like yogurt instead of full fat ice cream, whole grain muesli instead of sugary cereal, and popcorn instead of greasy potato chips instead healthy dinner recipes.
